Vegware products can then be returned to the soil within 12 weeks when disposed of in a commercial composting facility. Polylactic Acid (PLA) is a compostable bioplastic derived from plant sugars. Glucose is extracted from milled corn and then it is then fermented to produce lactic acid, which is processed into a polymer and made into pellets. PLA looks and feels like plastic but is plant based.
